Úrsula Viñolas



Úrsula defines herself as a teacher, jeweler and traveler. Her jewels are the fruit of her interest and knowledge of other cultures and through them we can approach a reality different from our own. Using natural elements, she creates compositions that gather aspects of different worlds and invite us to the dialogue. Today is the last day for the “Paradigma” exhibition at Escola Massana in Barcelona, the last opportunity to enjoy in person Úrsula’s beautiful necklaces before they travel to Beijing, the exhibition’s next destination.

Her statement:
Journeys, the knowledge of plural and rich spaces feeding themselves with tradition and innovation have brought me about creative experiences.
Taking photographs, mirrors in front of the reality, reflections that change the appearance of this, collections of memories, of experiences.
I construct my jewells with the memory of these experiences, using materials that detach many connotations, these are rescued of the implacable passage of time. Natural such as Niger snakeskin, coleopterous wings of Burkina Faso, shells of Mauritania beaches, opposed to the metals and to the gems.
I conceive my pieces like amulets and ritual ornaments. These make up like a “memorandum”.
These jewels want to be a testimony of an anthropologic reality meant by the complexity, the conflict and at the same time, want to promote the ethnic meeting as well as the intercultural dialog.

L’Úrsula es defineix a sí mateixa com a professora, joiera i viatgera. Les seves joies són fruit de l’interès pel coneixement d’altres cultures i través seu ens apropem a realitats diferents de la nostra. Utilitzant elements naturals crea composicions on conflueixen aspectes de móns diferents que conviden al diàleg. Avui és el darrer dia de l’exposició “Paradigma” que es pot visitar a l’Escola Massana de Barcelona, la darrera ocasió per gaudir d’aprop dels preciosos collarets de l’Úrsula abans que viatgin cap a Beijing, el proper destí de exposició.

La seva justificació del treball:
Viatjar es descobrir el que no sabem.
Els viatges, la percepció d’espais plurals i rics que es nodreixen de tradició i de innovació m’han propiciat experiències creatives.
Fer fotografies, miralls en front de la realitat, reflexes que canvien l’aparença d’aquesta, col·leccions de records, de vivències.
Construeixo les meves peces amb la memòria d’aquests experiències, utilitzant materials que desprenen nombroses connotacions, aquests son rescatats de l’impecable pas del temps. Naturals com la pell de serp del Níger, ales de coleòpters de Burkina Faso, mol·luscs de les platges de Mauritània, contraposats als metalls i a les gemes.
Concebo les meves peces com amulets i ornaments rituals. Aquestes conformen un “memorandum”
Aquestes joies volen ser testimoni d’una realitat antropològica significada per la complexitat, el conflicte i al mateix temps volen potenciar l’encontre ètnic i el diàleg intercultural.
